Water Softening Systems

Water softening systems are devices that remove minerals like calcium and magnesium from hard water. They work by using a process called ion exchange, where the hard water passes through a resin bed that traps the minerals and replaces them with sodium ions. This results in softer water that's gentler on your skin, hair, and appliances.

Understanding Water Hardness Levels Locally

Water hardness is a measure of minerals in the water. When water has a lot of minerals, it can make it harder to clean things like dishes and clothes. Soft water has fewer minerals and can make cleaning easier.

Softer water can be better for your skin because it doesn't dry it out as much. It can also help with skin irritation and make laundry more efficient by using less soap. Plus, it can make your water-using appliances last longer by reducing mineral buildup.

Water hardness reading in Middle Tennessee

There are several readings across Middle Tennessee which show a mixed bag of hardness in the water from public utilities. Overall, the average is about 95ppm, putting the water at the top of the Moderately Soft category.

Some regions, such as Franklin, Tennessee, however saw higher readings up to 135ppm, making their water significantly harder than surrounding cities in the mid state.

Regardless of where you stay in Middle Tennessee, nearly 100% of the water treatment plants in the city use chlorine to sanitize the drinking water. This process, while incredibly safe and sterile, can still leave levels of chlorine in your drinking water. All of the systems above will remove just about all of that chlorine before it enters your taps.
